They put in a car wash next to the bar
You can dirty your conscience, clean up your car
They say the town needs the business, especially in hard times like these

The birds are returning, the nights aren’t so cold
I drive past the high school, it makes me feel old
But they still hang your picture so they know who you are once you leave
Once you leave

And it’s been a good year so far
It feels like spring now
And we’re all bracing for change
We are the small town big stars
If you have burned out
That’s all you needed to say

So they built a gazebo, they put up a sign
It says “welcome to franklin, where you can unwind”
And it’s the worst damn slogan of all of the places I’ve been
The gazebo got painted, it still gets some use
But the sign was dismantled after months of abuse
Someone crossed out the letters til all that it said was “you win”
You win…

Chorus

So I know that you’re leaving, ‘cause everyone does
Yeah they all find a reason to get on that bus
But it’s hard to imagine so I do not care to try
It’s like the 5th of July when they pack up the fair
The sky smells of sulphur, it hangs in the air
And you know that it’s over, but you can’t help but stare at the sky
At the sky

Chorus
